Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) is a highly versatile composite material, known for its easy-to-form characteristics. It is composed of a matrix of high-quality polyester resin, reinforced with glass fibers. SMC is primarily utilized in compression molding processes, offering significant flexibility and durability. The manufacturing process involves dispersing long chains of chopped glass or carbon fibers into a bath of polyester resin, vinyl ester resin, or epoxy resin. The result is a flexible, leather-like sheet that can be easily cut, weighed, and placed into a mold to cure into the desired component configuration.
Our SMC material selection involves high-quality polyester resin and glass fiber. The manufacturing process includes cutting glass fiber filaments into strips, spraying them onto a resin-coated film, and processing them through an automatic packaging and folding machine. The final product undergoes thickening at room temperature to achieve the required molding viscosity, resulting in a high-quality, ready-to-use SMC sheet.
1.High Strength and Durability: The inclusion of glass fibers, whether cut, woven roving, or glass filament, enhances the material's tensile strength and impact resistance.
2.Easy to Form: SMC's flexible nature allows it to be easily cut and molded, making it ideal for complex shapes and large components.
3.Lightweight: Despite its strength, SMC remains lightweight, contributing to reduced overall product weight and easier handling during manufacturing and assembly.
4.Corrosion Resistance: The polyester resin matrix provides excellent resistance to corrosion and environmental degradation, ensuring longevity in various applications.
5.Cost-Effective: The efficient production process and the material's durability contribute to cost savings over its lifecycle.
6.Consistency and Quality: The automated manufacturing process, including the use of advanced machinery for cutting, coating, and packaging, ensures consistent quality and performance of the SMC sheets.
Hontech Composite is a advanced composite manufacturing company based in China and a supplier of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins for composite applications. Hontech offers manufacturing presence to produce a complete line of resins products, gelcoat for customers. Hontech resins can be customized to meet fabricators needs for varying reactivity ,viscosity, gel time and exotherms.Hontech offers SMC/BMC are customer formulated, and are a collaborative result of your performance criteria. Hontech focuses on the transportation, infrastructure, industrial and electrical applications. BMC is a combination of short chopped glass strands, mineral fillers and liquid thermosetting resin in the form of a bulk material. BMC is suitable for either compression or injection molding. SMC is a combinaion of long chopped glass strands, mineral fillers and liquid thermosetting resin in the form of a malleable sheet material. Processing of SMC of is typically done by compression or injection molding.
Hontech offers a wide range of composite materials, including fiberglass, as well as a variety of prepreg products, composite panels, tubes and cylinders, which are widely used in aerospace, automotive, electronics and electrical, construction, fitness equipment and other fields
