It is convenient for casting, pouring, bonding, sealing, dipping and other applications.
There are many classification methods for diluents, which also play a role in extending the service life. According to their use mechanism, they can be divided into two categories: inactive diluents and active diluents.
Principles for the selection of diluents
1) Try to use reactive diluents to improve the bonding and mechanical properties while improving the manufacturability.
2) Choose those diluents with similar chemical structure to the main resin, because they will participate in the reaction with the main resin in the presence of other additives, and greatly improve theperformance of the adhesive layer. For example, when 100 parts of bisphenol A epoxy resin is the main component of the glue, 20 parts of butanediol diepoxy diluent is added, and mixed amine is used as curing agent, the elongation of the adhesive layer can reach 7.0%, while The tensile strength remains above 29MPa, and the heat distortion temperature reaches 120ºC.
3) Care should be taken to select varieties with low volatility, low odor (peculiar smell), and low toxicity as much as possible to reduce the damage of diluents to the human body when compounding and sizing, because most active or inactive diluents have peculiar smell and There is low toxicity.
4) Easy source, non-flammable and non-explosive, and low price are also important factors to consider. Therefore, as long as water can be used as a diluent, water should be used as much as possible.
5) The most appropriate amount of addition should be selected through experiments and theory.
